"Dogs of War" is the second installment of the series that began with "Unto the Breach," which covered the first year of John Paul's adult life - his baptism by fire into the life of an 18th century sailor and the special perils of merchant shipping in the midst of the Seven Years War. The third volume (2017) will take up where "The Dogs of War" leaves off and will lead the reader through the opportunities, challenges, and intrigues that forced John Paul to flee a corrupt justice system and even to change his name by adding the surname "Jones." The John Paul Jones Saga is intended for readers who want to enter into the life and times of the pre-Revolutionary age, to gain an understanding of the real life of the time and still be inspired by the grit and everyday heroism of an age of explorers. While the years before the advance of Wesleyan-inspired social reforms were full of inhuman barbarity, modern readers need not be dragged through detailed expositions of the dregs of human folly in pursuit of a good story or in order to understand the forces and leaders that made the eighteenth century a pivotal turning point in American history.
